Adding a configuration screen
As a new start in 2010, I wanted to keep track on my every progress I make on this blog. But first, I want to get real honest with you all, because I think you deserve it after months of waiting.
I did promise an update and I did say that a lot of really cool features were going to be added. I really wanted that, too. So, what happened? Let’s just say that life has me gasping for air sometimes, and I have to juggle that airtime with work and honest-to-god free leisure time, as well. I will try to finally channel some of that air to iKITT as well over the coming weeks.
One of the first things I wanted to implement in iKITT was more control and content for the user. That immediately meant a configuration section where you could adjust and select the things that you want the app to do. Configuration screens are present in almost every app, and they almost always use a TableView. Even so, I have never actually implemented one, although they are fairly simple. The next few days, I will be concentrating on this when I can find the free time.
I already have a good idea of what items I want to be configurable from all the feedback and my own ideas. There are even a few features that I cut from version 1.0 that I want to make a configurable come-back, such as the start-up sound and whether changing speed in Dashboad mode makes a sound.
I will back this post up with some screenshots soon. Even if that does not mean that much to you now, it does to me in the sense that I’m actually moving forward again. This time I will do my best to document the process as best as I can. I know the pain of abandoned projects and radio silence, but I can also understand the reasons that behind it. Radio silence will not be the problem from now on. The next milestone for this thing we have here is the next submission to the App Store and I will be posting all along the way.

I’m anxious to see these update you have been speaking of! Since I purchased this app, it never correctly worked!
In what way does it not work correctly? I’ve been able to help pretty much everyone with their problems with iKITT. However, if there really is a bug in the current version, I need to know about it so I can fix it!
Looking forward to your update, just a cool idea is also make the dashboard mode with a reverse mirror mode so it reflects off the inside of your windsheld when you lay the iPhone on top off the dash like the iHud app. Check it out!!! Thanks! Still love this app! Have Fun!
Hmmm, I’m thinking about ways to do this easily. I’m wondering about how to reverse the font. I’ll take it into consideration.
Why not, an application multilanguage that speak like all the series (Italian, French etc.)!
Other thing, automatic speaking (ex. if you don’t push any button in 30 seconds it automatically tell a word)!
The shuffle mode of which you speak is being worked on. You will be able to switch it on in the settings screen. I’ll post some screenshots in the weekend.
How about a kift and k3th dash and voice box
Hey there! Cheers for the app! Like it! Only downloaded it for fun without any serious expectation and got what i wanted. Nevertheless i d be interested in getting the landscape mode properly working. The app doesn t seem to localize me even though gps works in other apps.i m on a 3g os 3.1.2 jailbroken. Cheers for a feedback and looking forward to your updates! Dan
Hi Dan,
iKITT needs a good GPS signal to be able to approximate speed, so it may take a little longer than usual. Also, be sure that you don’t try to get a GPS signal indoors, because that’s not going to work.
I hope you’ll get it up and running, if not send an e-mail and we’ll try to sort it out.
Plese could you make so you can talk to i kitt can talk to you and can talk to I kitt . Needs more work.
How about that “ticking-noise” from the Speed Control?
I think it’d be really cool if instead of just putting KARR samples in iKITT, just make an identical “iKARR” twin app. I love iKITT though. All my friends have dubbed me a nerd for actually using it while driving.
Haha, very cool.
A separate KARR app is an interesting idea, but it seems a little cumbersome to me. Better to have it in a free update to the same app.
What the I phone was made for – stuff like this!!!
Fantastic App with, great graphics so please keep the look and feel when you complete the S1, Karr, S2, etc themes
If possible:
1. Add the Kitt/Karr scanners in both landscape and Portrait view as a new screen
2. Add the turbo boost, oil slick, ski mode (two wheels), etc control panel as a separate screen
3. View screen to call Devon that make the incoming/outgoing sound effect and opens the phone contact list inside the app to make a call
4. Surveillance mode with the led’s and Sound effect with the CRT screen which uses the iPhone camera feed so you can take a picture kitt
Maybe have these activated when you push left/right
Can’t wait for the planned update!!
